Drowning is the #1 cause of death in children 1-4. Yet, many
families simply can’t afford the fees to send their child to survival
swim lessons.
Finances should never be the reason a child doesn’t have the
skills to survive a swim accident. That’s why, at Water Warriors,
we provide education and Survival Swim Lesson scholarships for
children in the Ozarks.
Every child deserves the skills to survive in the water!
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
The Ozarks has an abundance of water activities. Whether your family enjoys floating on the river, boating on Table Rock Lake, or swimming in the neighborhood pool, water is a part of our life here. It’s up to us to create opportunities for every child in the Ozarks to have survival swim skills and for every parent and caregiver to know risks and drowning prevention!
Layers OF PROTECTION
Christi Brown from the Judah Brown Project describes these layers as swiss cheese slices. The each have holes in them but when stacked on top of each other, there are less opportunities for a water accident to occur .
● Effective Supervision- Get in the pool with your child. If a child is ever missing look in the pool FIRST
● Segmented Supervision- Designate a ‘Water Watcher’ who is responsible for keeping their eyes on all children who are in the water. (Use an identifier so your group knows who this is)
● Pool Fence- Ensure your pool has a four sided fence at least 5 ft tall with a self-locking gate. Make sure the fence is 3-5 feet from the pool deck. Remove all furniture that could be used to climb over the fence.
● Window & Door Alarms- Make sure all windows and doors leading to the pool are locked and alarmed at all times. Secure doggie/cat doors.
● Pool Alarm- Have a warning system installed to alert you if anything goes in the water.
● CPR Certification- Become certified and renew your certification (remember: drowning victims need breath during CPR)
● Survival Swim Lessons- This training is imperative to have to teach your kids true survival skills. Ask the provider how they will teach your child to rescue themselves should they be alone in water.
No child is drown proof but these layers of protection significantly reduce the risk
DOUGLAS LANE
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
This scholarship is in honor of my Uncle Doug. At the age of twelve he tragically lost his life in a drowning accident at church camp. My father was just 8 years old at the time and loved his big brother. The heartbreak has carried through generations and it is my family's deepest desire that any parent who sees the value in survival swim lessons has the opportunity to give their child the gift of survival swim skills in the event of a water accident.

SURVIVAL SWIM LESSONS
Recipients of the scholarship will attend survival swim lessons at Tiny Fins Survival Swim, our only certified survival swim school in the area. Families from all over the Ozarks and beyond travel to Tiny Fins to ensure their child receives the muscle memory they need to survive in the water.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP
2.) We'll provide community education and give Scholarships to Families to Receive Survival Swim Lessons.
3.) Prevent drowning in the Ozarks.
